PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF DRINKING

I like beer, lots of beer, might drink it everyday.

Wild beers, bold beers, I like them either way.

From lambic beers to wet hopped beers,

Each lovely in their own way,

I like beer, lots of beer, usually drink them everyday!!

I’ve been drinking beers, traveling worldwide for beers, meeting beer drinkers, collecting paraphernalia, and watching the beer industry since 1979.  Hunting for new beers is exciting in that it can make any city or country visit an adventure.  For me drinking beer is about enhancing the quality of life through flavors, feelings, and friends.  I love beer alone and especially enjoy sharing with others.  There’s a flavor you get from fine beers, a lovely feeling felt, and the fun of friends...lots of friends...worldwide!!  I  believe in handling, collecting, and tasting beers with the same respect as a wine or music lover.  My appreciation of beer increases yearly.  I try to keep everything in moderation, including moderation itself!

Great American Beer Festival

Have Attended 15 Great American Beer Festivals (GABF). Moved to Colorado in 1990, in large part for the GABF and booming microbrewery scene! In 2006 I took notes on 75 beers the first night of the festival (Thursday), up from 67 in 2005 and 55 in 2004.

Have hosted major beer parties over the past four years for the GABF week for industry, connoisseurs, and friends, including: Tom Dalldorf, Steve Beaumont, Dr. Bill, Dave Keene, Vinnie Cilurzo, Todd Ashman, Chuck Cook, Jim Busch, Liz Leinweber, Ray and Cornelia, brewers from coast to coast, and scores of national and international contributors to Ratebeer, BeerAdvocate and the Burgundian Babble Belt. My loft was one block away and overlooked the Denver Convention Center, home of the GABF!

Escorted Michael Jackson from the GABF Convention Center, down the Denver pedestrian mall, to a KROC homebrewers event where he spoke about rugby, and beer!

In 2006 I did my fifth European trip and included these new beer destinations: Denmark, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, and Croatia. Also went to great pubs and breweries in Austria, the Netherlands, England and multiple German cities. Toured Young's Brewery in London before they closed (now contract brewed in Bedford).

Miscellaneous

Mentioned in an article on Beer Geeks in the premier issue of Draft magazine. Have been called a traveling beer evangelist!

In 2005 I organized my beer coasters - 1100 different ones.

In 2004 I started posting on Ratebeer.com as DenverLogan. I've hosted and attended many tastings and stayed with members from Indiana to Copenhagen.

In 2004 I started Ebay sales of beery items (have purchased thru Ebay for years).

Since 2002 I've contributed regularly to the Belgian beer lovers message board, the Burgundian Babble Belt, including posting travel stories from California to Little Rock, Brooklyn to northern Thailand. Have met dozens of members in the U.S. and Europe.

Started home brewing in the early 1980s, became a member of the Maryland homebrew club, the Brewers United for Real Potables (BURP). After a fifteen year absence I attended their Mashout - Annual camping trip in 2004 with Victory brewer, Jim Bush.

From 1979 to 2000 I was very active in tasting great beers and hunting for new beers in North America, and Europe (1993 & 1998). I also tasted beer in Singapore and Malaysia (1998). My first tasting of beer occurred when I was 5 years old - my father would watch the Saints football on TV and I'd fetch him long-neck Falstaff, Jax or Dixie bottles. He would pour the bottle and leave a wee little bit for me! Yumm!!
